Country star Blake Shelton believes Post Malone’s recent foray into country music is more than a fleeting experiment, predicting the genre will remain a major part of the artist’s future. Shelton shared his thoughts during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, where he discussed his current projects, life after The Voice, and his collaboration with Post Malone on his chart-topping country album, F-1 Trillion.
Shelton was quick to praise Post Malone’s deep knowledge and genuine love for country music, a genre that Shelton says has always been a foundational influence for the Texas-raised singer. According to Shelton, Malone grew up listening to country legends like George Strait, and his familiarity with the genre goes beyond surface-level appreciation.
“It’s not just something he’s trying out,” Shelton said. “He’s not dabbling in country for fun—this is the music he’s always wanted to make. He grew up in the Fort Worth area, and country music is a huge part of what shaped him as an artist.”
In fact, Post Malone’s understanding of country music surprised Shelton. The country star revealed that Malone introduced him to several classic country artists he hadn’t even heard of, further emphasizing the rapper-turned-country-singer’s authentic connection to the genre.
Shelton noted that Post Malone’s transition into country has been seamless, largely because of the respect he has for the genre’s history, songwriters, and musicians. Malone has even immersed himself in Nashville’s music scene, collaborating with some of the industry’s top talent and incorporating them into his live performances.
As for the future, Shelton doesn’t believe Post Malone’s country era is a one-off project. While many might expect him to return to his roots in rap and pop, Shelton sees country as a permanent part of Malone’s artistic journey.
“I think this is really the music Post has always wanted to make,” Shelton remarked. “He’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”
With F-1 Trillion achieving success in the country music world, it seems Post Malone’s country career is just getting started, and fans can likely expect more country hits from the multi-genre artist.
