Luke Smallbone, one half of the duo For King & Country, expresses a deep sense of freedom in creating Christian pop music, appreciating the wide range of topics available to explore as an artist. “What I realized about doing pop music was, you really got to master writing a love song,” he noted. He emphasizes that Christian music allows for a diverse array of themes, from love for family to faith and the challenges faced in the world.
For King & Country, comprised of Luke and his brother Joel, will headline the Ford Amphitheater on September 29. Originally from Australia, the duo moved to Nashville as children and has garnered significant acclaim over their decade-long career, including four Grammy Awards and a Billboard Music Award. Their performance will feature classic hits alongside new songs from their biopic, Unsung Hero. “Creating music around something that is very personal and close to your heart is a real gift,” Luke remarked.
He also finds strength in collaborating with his brother, noting that while friendships in bands can lead to conflict, family ties encourage quick resolutions. “You’ve still got to do Christmas together,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of resolving conflicts swiftly.
Beyond music, the Smallbone brothers are committed to philanthropy, working with Compassion International to support impoverished children worldwide. Through their music, Luke and Joel aim to inspire hope and positive change.
