In a recent interview with People, Elle King opened up about the aftermath of a viral video showing her performing intoxicated at a tribute to Dolly Parton during her 78th birthday at the Grand Ole Opry. “Try having something bad you did go f–king viral—that was pretty hard,” King admitted. She confessed to doubting her future in music, saying, “I never thought that a single human being would ever buy a ticket to my show again. But they do.”
During the performance, King struggled with the lyrics to Parton’s “Marry Me,” openly acknowledged being “f–king hammered,” and engaged in heckling with the audience. Following the incident, the Opry issued an apology for her language, and King decided to postpone a series of upcoming shows.
Parton publicly addressed the situation, encouraging fans to “forgive” and “forget” while acknowledging that King had been facing significant personal challenges.
King later revealed that she was experiencing “a high level of pain” at the time of the performance, suggesting that the incident was somewhat inevitable given her circumstances. This experience prompted her to make important changes in her life.
Now, reflecting on her journey, King shared that these changes have greatly improved her live performances. She is currently on the road for her 2024 Baby Daddy’s Weekend Tour, which is scheduled to continue through mid-November, showcasing her growth as an artist.
