Country star Carly Pearce is speaking out after facing criticism for how she handled a disruptive fan during a recent performance. While performing at WE Fest in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, the 34-year-old singer told a heckler to “get the f— out of my show,” leading to the man’s removal from the venue.
In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Pearce acknowledged that some, including her own mother, Jackie Slusser, took issue with her choice of words. “My mom agreed. She was like, ‘You didn’t have to say that word,’” Pearce revealed, adding that while she understood the criticism, she felt justified in standing up for herself.
“As artists, we’re putting our heart and souls out every night,” Pearce said, explaining that she often refrains from speaking out but felt compelled in this instance. Pearce also pointed to the double standard she believes exists in country music: “The boys do it, and it’s cool. But if I do it, it’s like, ‘She’s being disrespectful.’”
The “I Hope You’re Happy Now” singer encouraged others to stand up for themselves, calling out the culture of bullying that exists both online and in person. “We’re human beings too,” Pearce said. “People should just be kinder. If you don’t want to hear me sing, go get a beer. I don’t want you here anyway.”
Pearce’s bold stance has sparked conversation, but she remains firm in her belief that artists should feel empowered to defend their space.
