This week, “Newsmakers” features Mary Minter, Director of the Country Music Artists Association (CMA) of Texas, as she discusses the unique music landscape of the state. Minter asserts that music charts do not always reflect true quality in the industry.
Joining her is Chris Gardner, a singer-songwriter whose track “Real American Hero” was honored as the 2025 Song of the Year by CMA Texas, coinciding with the organization’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Minter and Gardner share insights into the realities of forging a career in country music, addressing the differences between touring and performing locally in Texas, and emphasizing the critical role of storytelling in songwriting.
“Newsmakers” airs nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. during the week of September 29 on KGCS-TV, with a Saturday airing at 5:30 a.m. on October 5 on KOAM-TV.
Viewers can also catch the episode on the station’s YouTube channel, KGCS – Missouri Southern State University. KGCS programming is available on channel 21 and through regional cable providers like Sparklight, Mediacom, and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates under the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
