Rising country star Jelly Roll will not be attending the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, one of the genre’s most anticipated events, as he prioritizes his Beautifully Broken tour.
The 39-year-old artist, born Jason DeFord, is performing in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 26, where he has a sold-out show at TD Garden. Despite missing the star-studded event, Jelly Roll is nominated for several prestigious awards, including People’s Artist of 2024, Best Male Artist, Social Country Star Award, and Song of 2024.
His collaborator, Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), was present to accept the award for Best Crossover for their hit “Lonely Road,” which features elements from John Denver’s classic “Country Roads.” In his speech, MGK expressed gratitude for their evolving friendship, reflecting on their past conflicts: “We went from 10 years ago hating each other to elevating each other. There is enough room on this couch for everybody.”
Earlier this year, Jelly Roll had a successful night at the CMT Awards, winning Performance of the Year, Male Video of the Year, and Video of the Year. He is also set to appear at the upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
