Pop-punk icon Avril Lavigne has teamed up once again with country star Nate Smith for a powerful new duet titled “Can You Die from a Broken Heart.” After their performance together at the Academy of Country Music Awards earlier this year, where they sang Smith’s hit “Bulletproof,” the two artists have joined forces for another collaboration.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of country music, and I admire Nate’s artistry,” Lavigne said in a statement. “After performing at the ACMs, I knew I wanted to work with Nate again because we had such a great time.”
The heartfelt ballad, which Lavigne believes will have a lasting emotional impact, will be featured on Smith’s upcoming sophomore album, California Gold, set for release this Friday. Smith expressed his excitement about working with Lavigne again, calling it a “pinch-me moment.”
“Avril is not only a powerhouse vocalist but an incredible human being. Working with her has been a joy, and I’ve learned so much in the process,” Smith shared.
This marks the second time artists who first collaborated at the ACMs have recorded a new duet together. Last year, Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan released “Cowboys Cry Too” after performing a mashup of their songs at the awards show, a collaboration that has since been nominated for a CMA Award.
Fans of both Lavigne and Smith are eagerly anticipating the emotional impact of “Can You Die from a Broken Heart” when it drops alongside California Gold.
