In a recent interview with Earn Your Leisure at Invest Fest, 50 Cent candidly discussed his absence from the rap scene and the current state of hip-hop music. The rapper expressed his belief that today’s rap requires him to “tap into his stupid side” to create relevant content.
“If you listen to the music that’s out right now, I have to tap into my stupid,” he remarked. “This is why I haven’t created as much content as I was in the past. I started going towards film production and developing projects because I can impact things in a bigger way through that.”
50 Cent, known for his keen business acumen, has shifted much of his focus to film and television. He noted the success of Tyler Perry in the industry, indicating a desire to follow a similar path.
Despite his hiatus from music, 50 Cent hinted at potential new projects, mentioning a collaboration with Dr. Dre. In a previous conversation with Big Boy, he shared that after a now-deleted Instagram post about new music, Eminem reached out to inform him that Dre had beats ready for him. “As soon as I said that, I got a text from Em that he had already spoke to Dre,” he explained. “Dre is in there, and he got some crazy stuff for me to go hear.”
While he hasn’t released new music since his 2014 album Animal Ambition, aside from theme songs for his Power series on STARZ, 50 Cent has remained busy in film production. In February 2023, he signed a nonexclusive multi-project broadcast deal with Fox and is also producing a documentary for Netflix addressing allegations surrounding Diddy.
As 50 Cent contemplates his return to music, he remains a prominent figure in both the rap and film industries, continually shaping his legacy in entertainment.
