The Shell Shock II music festival in Orlando has encountered significant backlash following the announcement of Kyle Rittenhouse as a guest, leading to the withdrawal of several bands, including headliner Evergreen Terrace. As a result, the festival will now be headlined by a Slipknot cover band, according to Loudwire.
Evergreen Terrace publicly condemned the decision to feature Rittenhouse, stating, “We will not align with an event promoting murderers such as Kyle Rittenhouse capitalizing off of their pseudo-celebrity.” The band emphasized their longstanding support for philanthropic causes related to veterans, PTSD awareness, and child poverty, and acknowledged a failure to conduct adequate due diligence regarding the event.
After Evergreen Terrace’s exit, the festival’s organizers reportedly offered to disinvite Rittenhouse, but the band ultimately chose to withdraw due to concerns about various associated entities. “As advocates for free speech, we are respectfully cancelling the Shell Shock festival. We will be personally contributing to a veterans charity and urge you to do the same,” they added.
The controversy began when Evergreen Terrace announced their withdrawal, marking a turning point for the festival.
