At the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special on Sunday, October 6, Brad Paisley honored the late country music legend Charley Pride with a heartfelt tribute. Before performing his new single, “Truck Still Works,” Paisley shared a personal story about Pride’s impact on his career.
“Fifty years ago, Charley Pride won two awards at the very first American Music Awards, and that’s a big deal,” Paisley said to the audience. He reflected on how Pride had become a mentor to him early in his career. “When I was 15, Charley saw me play and gave me his home phone number,” Paisley recalled. “He told my dad, ‘I want to help your son,’ and he truly did. He was such a great guy, and we miss him so much.”
In a touching gesture, Paisley then played a brief rendition of Pride’s iconic song “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin’,” dedicating it to his late friend. “We miss you, Charley,” Paisley said before moving on to his new track, showcasing his respect for Pride and the enduring influence of his legacy.
