Country music star Eric Church is taking action to support victims of Hurricane Helene by dedicating his upcoming song “Darkest Hour” to those affected by the disaster. The North Carolina native made the announcement on Friday, revealing that he would be releasing the rights to the song, originally slated for release next year, in order to benefit the recovery efforts for the hurricane’s victims.
“I’m giving this song to North Carolina,” Church stated, emphasizing his commitment to helping his home state. By signing away the publishing rights, he ensures that all proceeds from “Darkest Hour” will directly aid individuals and families rebuilding their lives after one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history.
Hurricane Helene made landfall on September 26 as a Category 4 storm, causing widespread destruction as it traveled northward from Florida. The hurricane claimed over 225 lives and devastated communities, leaving countless homes damaged and disrupting infrastructure, including electricity and cellphone service for millions. The toll could potentially rise as rescue efforts continue and the number of unaccounted individuals remains uncertain, according to reports from The Associated Press.
