Gloucester’s Country Music Muster Welcomes Aspiring Stars to the Stage

by Barbara

This weekend, aspiring country musicians have a chance to showcase their talents at the annual Country Music Muster, hosted by the Gloucester and District Country Music Club. Held on October 12-13 at the newly renovated Club Gloucester on Denison Street, the event invites performers of all skill levels to step onto the stage and sing.

For those dreaming of country music stardom, the Muster offers inspiration from artists like Oliver Anthony, whose hit “Rich Men North of Richmond” recently topped the Billboard Hot 100. His gritty anthem resonates with working-class struggles, capturing themes of inflation, taxes, and food insecurity. With lyrics like, “It’s a damn shame what the world’s gotten to, for people like me and people like you,” Anthony’s song speaks to those who feel the grind of “overtime hours for bullshit pay.”

Since its founding in 1984, the Country Music Muster has been a platform for emerging artists, many of whom started as street buskers. This year’s event promises a celebration of raw talent, and perhaps even a glimpse of Australia’s next country music star.
