The Jacksonville-based metalcore band Evergreen Terrace has pulled out of the Shell Shock heavy metal festival, scheduled for October 19 in Orlando, Florida, after learning that Kyle Rittenhouse would make a guest appearance. Other acts, including Southpaw, Let Me Bleed, and American Hollow, also withdrew in protest.
The festival, which bills itself as a charity event supporting first responders with PTSD and other injuries, has now replaced Evergreen Terrace with a Slipknot cover band as the headliner.
Kyle Rittenhouse, who gained national attention in 2020 after fatally shooting two people and injuring another during protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was acquitted on grounds of self-defense. He still faces two civil lawsuits related to the incident.
The decision to feature Rittenhouse at the festival has stirred controversy, leading to a reshuffling of the event’s lineup.
