Eminem’s legendary music video for “The Real Slim Shady” has officially surpassed one billion views on YouTube, marking a significant milestone 14 years after its upload and nearly 25 years since its original release in 2000.

The video, directed by Philip G. Atwell and Dr. Dre, offers viewers a wild visual experience, beginning with Eminem in a hospital gown at a mental health facility, attended by comedian Kathy Griffin. From there, the narrative unfolds with Eminem donning a red-and-yellow superhero suit, rapping among a group of bleach-blond lookalikes, and even serving onion rings at a fast-food restaurant.

The video also features creative interpretations of the song’s notable references. When Eminem name-drops Britney Spears, he appears dressed as the pop star in a nod to her “…Baby One More Time” era. Another memorable moment occurs when Eminem raps about Dr. Dre being “locked in my basement,” showing him drinking from a milk carton adorned with a “Missing” poster of the Death Row Records founder.

Released in 2000 as part of The Marshall Mathers LP, “The Real Slim Shady” climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It joins several of Eminem’s other hits—such as “Without Me,” “Mockingbird,” “Rap God,” and “Lose Yourself”—that have also garnered over a billion views on the platform.

Nearly 25 years after the song’s debut, Eminem continues to reflect on his Y2K success. His latest album, The Death of Slim Shady, which topped the Billboard 200 in July, includes the lead single “Houdini.” This track features a nostalgia-driven music video where Eminem employs AI technology to bring his younger self back to life, further celebrating his storied career.
