Los Angeles indie-rap icon King Lil G returns with his latest single and music video, City Lights, released today under Empire 47 / 808 Cartel / Compound Interest. Produced by DJ Flippp, the track combines a sleek Spanish guitar melody with crisp snaps, creating an introspective atmosphere that complements King Lil G’s reflective lyrics.
In City Lights, King Lil G contemplates his challenging rise from the streets, musing, “Maybe it’s my destiny to overcome some more.” The chorus echoes his reflections as he drives through L.A. at night: “Top down, city lights, thinking ‘bout this shit ain’t got me feeling right.” The music video follows him from a morning in a lavish Southern California mansion to a late-night cruise in a classic convertible, offering a glimpse into his daily life.
The rapper shared his inspiration behind the song, saying, “It reminisces about sleeping on the couch, living off EBT, and not having any money to eat. I reflect on that life and share how depressing it can be when you make bad decisions.”
City Lights follows his recent street anthem, Loyalty, which has already amassed over 286,000 YouTube views and received acclaim from Hip Hop Over Everything.
