Grammy-winning rapper T.I. has announced his retirement from live performances, marking the end of an era in his illustrious career. The rapper shared this news during an interview on Thursday, revealing that his final performance will take place at the station’s Jingle Ball concert on December 19.
“I appreciate y’all for offering me my last working gig because I do not need the money anymore, and I will not be performing,” T.I. stated. “I don’t want to do it anymore.”
T.I. elaborated on his decision, saying, “I don’t want people to pay me to hop around and sweat for their entertainment anymore.” During the interview, he was accompanied by fellow rapper Young Dro, a member of the Pimp Squad Click, which T.I. co-founded in 2001. When asked about his involvement with the group going forward, T.I. humorously replied, “Of course. I’m going to answer the phone to tell them that I will not be performing.”
This retirement announcement comes shortly after T.I. and his wife, Tiny Harris, celebrated a significant legal victory. The couple was awarded $71 million in a multi-year lawsuit against MGA Entertainment, a toy company accused of infringing on the intellectual property rights of their teen girl group, OMG Girlz.
