Mobile’s New Year’s Eve celebration is set to feature a country twist this year, with legendary artist Clint Black headlining the annual MoonPie Over Mobile festivities.
The announcement came Tuesday morning, as organizers confirmed Black would take center stage at the event. Black, who burst onto the country music scene in 1989 with his debut album Killin’ Time, quickly became a household name. The album produced multiple No. 1 hits, including “Walkin’ Away” and “A Better Man,” and Black went on to secure more than a dozen chart-topping singles throughout the 1990s. His accolades include a Grammy Award for “Same Old Train,” solidifying his status as a country music icon.
This marks a return to country music for the MoonPie Drop, which has recently featured artists from a variety of genres. Past headliners include New Orleans jazz-funk act Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue in 2021, rock band Third Eye Blind in 2022, and a lineup of hip-hop legends, including Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick, in 2023.
