Fat Joe is gearing up for the BET Hip Hop Awards 2024, returning as the show’s host. The 54-year-old rapper shared his enthusiasm ahead of the annual awards ceremony, which was pre-taped on October 8 at Drai’s Beachclub & Nightclub in Las Vegas and aired on Tuesday, October 15.
This year’s event promises a star-studded lineup featuring performances from 310babii, 2 Chainz, Big Boogie with GloRilla, Bossman DLow, E-40, Juicy J, Soulja Boy with Roscoe Dash, and Trina with Yung Miami. Fat Joe described the show as “one big epicenter of anthems,” showcasing tracks that resonate with fans from their youth to the present. “All the anthems that ever got you from when you were young to now are all spread out in there,” he said, adding, “Your favorites — Soulja Boy, Roscoe Dash — they’re up in there.”
Reflecting on his musical roots, the Bronx-born artist mentioned his connection to the “E-40 era,” acknowledging the West Coast rapper’s influence since the mid-’90s. He also noted the energy brought to the stage by Trina and Yung Miami, stating, “They killed it.”
Another highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the prestigious “I Am Hip Hop Award” to Travis Scott. The 33-year-old rapper, known for hits like “Sicko Mode,” will receive the honor from Teyana Taylor and Tyla. The award recognizes Scott for his creative genius, cultural contributions, and significant impact on music and popular culture.
Fat Joe expressed his admiration for Scott, stating, “He deserves it. He brought a whole new style to the game.” He also praised Scott’s behind-the-scenes contributions, saying, “A lot of people don’t know he was behind many hits from Kanye West. This guy paid a lot of dues, and he deserves it.” Joe encouraged fans to tune in for Scott’s acceptance speech, promising, “When you see his speech, you’re going to love it, too.”
