Agalisiga “The Chuj” Mackey, a 21-year-old Cherokee singer-songwriter, is set to release his debut album, Nasgino Inage Nidayulenvi (It Started in the Woods), on Friday, October 18. The album will be available on all major streaming platforms, with a special release show scheduled for October 23 at Kroner and Baer Pub.
The album features a collection of nine original songs along with two classic country and folk covers, all performed in the Cherokee language. Vinyl and CD versions, complete with a lyric booklet, can be purchased through the nonprofit Horton Records. They will also be available at Mackey’s album release event on October 19 at Tulsa’s St. Cecilia’s Listening Room, featuring fellow Cherokee artist Kalyn Fay.
