Tommy Richman’s viral sensation “Million Dollar Baby,” which reigned as the longest-running No. 1 song on Billboard’s R&B chart this year, has been officially submitted for consideration in the rap categories at the upcoming 2025 Grammy Awards. The song, which dominated the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart for an impressive 22 weeks, will vie for nominations in the Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance categories.
If nominated, “Million Dollar Baby” will face stiff competition from major rap hits, including Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” Future, Metro Boomin, and Lamar’s “Like That,” Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hiss,” 21 Savage’s “Redrum,” GloRilla’s “Yeah Glo!” and Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s collaboration, “Carnival.” The song also reached the top of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 before being dethroned by The Weeknd and Playboi Carti’s “Timeless.”
While Richman’s representative declined to comment, first-round Grammy voting concluded this past Tuesday, with nominations set to be announced on Nov. 8. Final voting will take place from Dec. 12 to Jan. 3, ahead of the Feb. 2 awards show at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
This news comes after Richman, 24, faced backlash for a now-deleted tweet declaring, “I am not a hip-hop artist,” which led to reactions from figures like DJ Hed, who suggested that hip-hop stations stop playing Richman’s music. Despite this, Richman may still receive a nomination for Best R&B Song as a co-writer on Brent Faiyaz’s “Best Time,” also up for Grammy consideration.
Richman, signed to Faiyaz’s ISO Supremacy, has found success beyond “Million Dollar Baby” with singles “Devil is a Lie” and “Thought You Were The One” both cracking the Billboard Hot R&B Songs Top 10. Although his debut album Coyote, released last month, will not be eligible until the 2026 Grammy Awards, Richman’s quick rise promises an exciting future in music.
