San Luis Obispo native and rising country music sensation Dasha made a heartwarming return to her alma mater, San Luis Obispo High School, during a break from her debut headline tour. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter, who gained popularity through TikTok and now performs to packed stadiums, visited the campus on Thursday, reconnecting with the place where she began honing her musical skills.
“It’s so crazy. I’m still in denial. I feel like I’m in a fever dream or something,” said one excited student who met Dasha on campus.
After six months of nonstop performances at festivals, award shows, and talk show appearances, Dasha reflected on the whirlwind of success. “I grew up here. This is like my hometown. My mom’s house is like a mile away from here, and it’s just so cool to see how fast life can change in six months,” she said.
During the visit, Dasha took time to meet with students and teachers, answering questions, taking photos, and sharing stories about her journey from a high school student to a rising country star. Kristin Nusbaum, a teacher at the school, expressed her pride in Dasha’s achievements. “Watching Dasha grow from being a singer-songwriter and student to now, the sky’s the limit. We’re so proud of her,” Nusbaum said.
Dasha’s visit was a brief but meaningful pause before she continues her international tour in support of her debut album What Happens Now? Reflecting on the experience, she said, “Today kind of hit me hard. I’m just a person following my dreams, writing songs. Now I’m going on tour around the world, and it feels good to be home and ground myself.”
Before resuming her tour, Dasha is set to perform at SLO Brew Rock on Friday and will make an appearance at Boo Boo Records in downtown San Luis Obispo for a mini acoustic set and album signing.
