Judas Priest has announced the cancellation of their upcoming show in Sugar Land, Texas, less than 24 hours before it was set to take place. The iconic heavy metal band shared the news on social media late Monday night, citing “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for the last-minute decision. Fans can obtain refunds at the point of purchase.
Recently, Lead singer Rob Halford expressed his eagerness to return to Texas, stating, “It’s a joy to come back. We’re finishing the U.S. tour in Texas.” Despite the cancellation, the band is still scheduled to perform in Austin and Dallas before heading to Japan for a series of five shows.
Halford, who has led Judas Priest for over 50 years since their debut album Rocka Rolla in 1973, emphasized the band’s role in elevating heavy metal on a global stage. Known for their distinctive leather-and-studs aesthetic, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Their latest album, Invincible Shield, was released in March.
Reflecting on the challenges of touring, Halford compared the band’s teamwork to that of a sports team, emphasizing the importance of motivation and preparation. He noted, “Maybe I’ve not had a pretty good day for whatever reason, but as I get dressed, there’s this feeling that ‘This is what I was born and destined to do.'” As he approaches the stage, hearing the crowd chant “Priest! Priest! Priest!” fuels his passion for performing and gratitude for the life that music has afforded him.
