As singer-songwriters like Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, and Tyler Childers dominate the Billboard charts and fill amphitheaters, Stillwater, Oklahoma native country music star Wyatt Flores is poised to join their ranks with his debut album, Welcome to the Plains, released through Island Records.
The album follows a series of three EPs: The Hutson Sessions (2022), Life Lessons (2023), and Half Life (2023), which have helped elevate Flores’ profile in the music scene. His blend of raw, folksy sound and brutally honest lyrics resonates with listeners, placing him among the notable artists shaping the Red Dirt genre that has emerged from Oklahoma since the 1970s, including Cross Canadian Ragweed, Stoney LaRue, and the Turnpike Troubadours.
Despite his rising success, Flores admits to feeling apprehensive about releasing his debut album. Balancing the pressures of a burgeoning career with his personal artistic vision has been a significant challenge for the young musician, making Welcome to the Plains not only a milestone but also a deeply personal exploration of his journey.
