Dolly Parton Affirms the Enduring Legacy of Country Music

Dolly Parton, a defining figure in country music, recently reflected on the genre’s evolution. As she noted, country music has undergone significant changes over the decades, transitioning from legends like Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, and Waylon Jennings to contemporary stars such as Lainey Wilson, Morgan Wallen, and Jelly Roll. Despite this transformation, both Parton and enduring artists like Willie Nelson continue to play pivotal roles in shaping the genre.

Parton expressed her deep love for country music and its history, stating, “I will always love country music. I cherish the days of Hank Williams, George Jones, and Merle Haggard. Everything has to change, and country music has changed a lot.”

Proud of the genre’s progress, Parton emphasized the inspiration that past artists provide for future generations. “There will always be young people who connect with Hank Williams and delve into that music,” she noted.

Parton also acknowledged the shift in how country music is perceived. “It used to be seen as an old, hokey genre, but now it’s one of the most beloved styles of music worldwide,” she remarked.

Looking ahead, Parton remains optimistic about country music’s future. “I’m proud to say that country music is still here, and it’s still called country music, even if it leans more toward rock and pop. Country music will always exist in one form or another, and I intend to ensure that as long as I live.”
