Actress Vera Farmiga, known for her roles in Up In The Air, The Conjuring, and The Departed, is making her mark in the music world as the lead vocalist of a new band, The Yagas. Comprised of her husband Renn Hawkey from the industrial metal band Deadsy, along with drummer Jason Bowman, guitarist Mark Visconti, and bassist Mike Davis, The Yagas have released their debut single, “The Crying Room.” The accompanying music video features Eugene Hütz of Gogol Bordello.
Farmiga describes “The Crying Room” as a song about emotional release. “It’s about crying your heart clean,” she explains. The song was filmed during and after an eclipse, symbolizing a deeper exploration of the human experience. “Eclipses have potent effects on our psychology,” she notes. “They evoke awe and wonder and act as energetic portals that trigger epiphanies and outpourings of emotion.”
Farmiga emphasizes the theme of balancing the dualities of shadow and light, suggesting that such moments allow us to examine our internal struggles. “It’s in this balancing of the dualities that we have an opportunity to look deep into our hearts and bring that into the light, no matter how dark it is.” With this single, Farmiga not only showcases her passion for music but also invites listeners to reflect on their own emotional journeys.
