Miami native Orlando Mendez, who once aspired to be an actor, found a new path during the pandemic that transformed his life. When live entertainment came to a halt in 2020, Mendez seized the opportunity to delve into his passion for country music, rebranding himself as the “Cuban Cowboy.”
With the world in lockdown, Mendez turned to YouTube to teach himself guitar. As pandemic restrictions eased, the 28-year-old quickly assembled a band, securing gigs across South Florida and beyond. “We brought country to bars that had never featured it before,” Mendez shared. “It was the right place, right time. We gained momentum and started building quickly.”
This month, Mendez will return to his hometown to perform at the Country Bay Music Festival, taking place on November 9-10 at the historic Miami Marine Stadium on Virginia Key, just southeast of downtown Miami.
