Cody Johnson is captivating audiences with his powerful new duet featuring Carrie Underwood, the lead-off single from his eagerly awaited album Leather Deluxe. However, when it comes to the track that touched him the most, Johnson points to an entirely different song that brought him to tears: “C’mon, Cowgirl.”
At a recent media roundtable in Nashville, the self-described “rough around the edges” cowboy opened up about the emotional significance of the song, which encapsulates a profound father-daughter relationship in just 217 poignant words. Johnson shared that the first time he performed the track for his wife, Brandi, and their daughters, Clara Mae, 9, and Cori, 7, he was overcome with emotion, with “tears pouring down [his] cheeks.”
