A new live country music venue, La Honky Tonk, is set to open by the end of 2024 at 909 Broadway Street, downtown. The venue will take over the space formerly occupied by Augie’s BBQ, which closed earlier this year due to extensive construction in the area.
La Honky Tonk aims to highlight female country artists, celebrating icons from Carrie Underwood to Dolly Parton, while offering a mix of generational country music. The venue will also feature a pink-themed atmosphere to appeal to a wide range of audiences.
Co-owner Richard Bocanegra shared that the venue’s goal is to attract a diverse crowd. “We want to appeal to both new and classic country music fans,” he said. The venue will operate during the day as a coffee spot and is currently under construction, with a bar seating area visible from the street.
The owners saw a gap in the downtown area for country music and are eager to fill that void. “You have to go to the outskirts for country music, but we saw an opportunity to bring it to Broadway,” said Bocanegra. La Honky Tonk is a sister venue to El Honky Tonk, located on North Flores Street, which specializes in men’s country music and Spanish hits.
“With the construction now behind us, we’re ready to bring energy back to Broadway,” said co-owner James Gonzaba.
