The 2025 Grammy Awards nominations have arrived, and the contenders for the prestigious Best Metal Performance category have been unveiled. This year’s list showcases five powerhouse acts, each vying for the coveted award.
Leading the charge is Gojira, whose groundbreaking performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” at the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony brought them global attention. The French metal giants, alongside collaborators Marina Viotti and Victor Le Masne, are poised to make a strong push for the win.
Not far behind, Metallica is also in the running with their track “Screaming Suicide” from their latest album, 72 Seasons. Given the band’s legendary status, their nomination automatically makes them a formidable contender.
The competition intensifies with Judas Priest, who earned their spot with the track “Crown of Horns” from their 2024 album Invincible Shield. Adding further heat are Spiritbox, with their ethereal yet heavy “Cellar Door,” and Knocked Loose, who collaborated with singer Poppy on the aggressive track “Suffocate.”
With such fierce competition, this year’s race for Best Metal Performance is shaping up to be a thrilling one.
