New details have emerged surrounding the death of Paul Di’Anno, former lead vocalist of Iron Maiden, who passed away last month at the age of 66. A post on his official Facebook page confirmed that the musician died from a “tear in the sac around the heart,” which caused his heart to stop.
The post, shared on Monday, disclosed the results of an autopsy, with the family giving permission to reveal the cause. Di’Anno’s sisters, Cheryl and Michelle, explained, “Basically, he had a tear in the sac around the heart, and blood filled inside it from the main aorta artery, which caused the heart to stop.” They added, “Paul’s death was instantaneous and hopefully painless. May he rest in peace.”
In a fitting tribute, family and friends held a memorial concert in Di’Anno’s honor over the weekend at Underworld Camden in London. The event featured a special musical set where his colleagues bid a final farewell to their friend.
