In a powerful moment on episode of the Hulu docuseries It’s All Country, Charles Kelley of Lady A shared an intimate look at his journey to sobriety, revealing the toll alcohol had taken on both his personal life and his music career. Kelley candidly discussed how his drinking began to strain his marriage to Cassie McConnell Kelley and negatively impact his work with the band.
Kelley revealed that Lady A had to postpone their Request Line Tour for an entire year so that he could seek treatment at a rehabilitation facility in Utah. Reflecting on the decision to get sober, Kelley stated, “It’s the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.” He also expressed his gratitude toward his bandmates, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, who supported him throughout his recovery.
“Dave and Hillary were such good friends throughout this whole journey,” Kelley said. “And thank God, I felt like I was given this second lease on my career and my marriage.” His openness and the unwavering support from his bandmates mark a pivotal moment in both his personal and professional life.
