Rap music icon André 3000 has shared an intriguing detail about his debut solo album, New Blue Sun, revealing that it does not count toward his current solo deal with Epic Records. The Atlanta rapper explained that because the album is instrumental, rather than a rap project, it doesn’t count against his contractual obligations with the label. “They congratulated me on the process, they congratulated me on what the work was, but contractually — it’s very interesting — my label will not count this album against my contract,” he said.

The album, which broke a record for the longest song to hit the Hot 100 chart with I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time, has garnered significant attention. It recently earned nominations for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Jazz Album at the upcoming Grammys, while the standout track was nominated for Best Instrumental Composition.
