Post Malone captivated the crowd at the 2024 CMA Awards with a deeply emotional performance of his song “Yours,” inspired by his daughter. After opening the show alongside Chris Stapleton with “California Sober,” the singer returned solo later in the evening for a moving rendition of the track from his debut country album, F-1 Trillion.
The tender ballad, which closes the album, tells the story of a father’s protective love for his daughter and his warning to any man who might come into her life. As Malone’s voice rose to an emotional crescendo, the arena was left in a hushed silence. At the song’s conclusion, he shouted out to his 2-year-old daughter, “We love you, DD,” a reference to the initials of his daughter, as seen in his “DDP” tattoo across his forehead.
“Yours” holds a special place in Malone’s heart, as he previously shared that the song was inspired by thoughts of his daughter’s future wedding. The performance marked a key moment in his first-ever CMA nominations, where he competed for Song of the Year, Single of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and Musical Event of the Year for his collaboration with Morgan Wallen on “I Had Some Help.”
