Morgan Wallen was named Entertainer of the Year at the 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards in Nashville, cementing his position as a dominant force in country music. This win comes three years after Wallen was banned from performing at the 2021 CMAs following the release of a video where he used a racial slur.
Although Wallen did not attend the ceremony, he was the most nominated artist of the night with seven nods, including Male Vocalist of the Year. His victory marked a significant moment in his career, fueled by the success of his 2023 album One Thing at a Time, which notched a record-breaking 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts—the most for a country album.
The album’s lead single, “Last Night,” went platinum seven times and was the most-streamed song of 2023 across all genres in the U.S. Wallen also earned a nomination for Single of the Year for his collaboration with Post Malone on “I Had Some Help,” a summer hit that topped the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks.
Despite his past controversies, including a 2023 shutout at the CMAs, Wallen’s return to the spotlight was marked with applause. This year’s Entertainer of the Year award was presented to him by actor Jeff Bridges, sparking a standing ovation from the audience.
While Wallen’s social media did not address his win the following morning, fans quickly took to the internet to celebrate his achievement. This comes after a tumultuous year for Wallen, who faced legal issues earlier in 2024, including felony charges for reckless endangerment. Despite the setbacks, the entertainer’s latest win signals a significant chapter in his career comeback.
