Traverse City’s own The Accidentals took the national stage this week, appearing at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards as part of the string section accompanying country star Lainey Wilson.
The trio—Sav Buist (violin), Katie Larson (cello), and Katelynn Corll (acoustic guitar)—performed alongside Wilson during her televised rendition of “4x4xU,” adding their signature musical depth to the live show.
Buist and Larson, who first met in the Traverse City West Senior High orchestra program before transferring to Interlochen Arts Academy to join its then-new singer-songwriter major, founded The Accidentals in 2012. Over the past decade, the band has earned acclaim for their unique fusion of pop, folk, indie rock, and classical styles. Corll joined the group last year, replacing longtime drummer Michael Dause.
This isn’t the first time Wilson has connected with Traverse City artists. In 2023, she mentored local singer-songwriter Drew Hale after selecting him as a winner in the Tractor Supply Company Emerging Artists Program. The mentorship culminated in a shared performance at the Grand Ole Opry in October of that year.
Wilson’s CMA performance of “4x4xU,” featuring The Accidentals, is now available to view in full on YouTube, offering fans a chance to witness the Traverse City band’s talent on one of country music’s biggest stages.
