Caoimhe Murney, the rising country music star known for her powerful vocals, is quickly making a name for herself in the industry. The Irish entertainer recently earned the Best Newcomer Award 2024 at the Irish Entertainment Awards on October 30, held at the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran. Her award-winning performance of her second single, “Hillbilly Girl,” was the highlight of the evening, cementing her place as a force to be reckoned with in the country music world.
At just four years old, Murney began singing country songs, and since then, her career has taken off with remarkable speed. In 2023, she received two major accolades: Inspirational Singer of the Year from U105 and another award at the Mighty Woman NI Awards in Belfast. Reflecting on her rapid rise, Murney’s mother, Michelle, shared with the Newry Reporter, “It’s been a bit of a roller coaster lately.”
Murney’s journey into country music began when she recorded her debut single, “Wrong Road Again,” which caught the attention of Susan McCann, Ireland’s “First Lady of Country Music.” McCann was so impressed with Murney’s talent that she took the young singer under her wing.
The story behind “Wrong Road Again” dates back to a Fun Day in Hilltown on Easter Monday, where Murney expressed her desire to make a CD to her parents, Michelle and Peter. It was at this event, where radio presenter Hugo Duncan and McCann were both involved, that the seeds for her music career were planted.
