Chappell Roan is marking a significant achievement in her career as her breakout hit, “Good Luck, Babe!” officially surpasses 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The 26-year-old pop sensation shared the exciting news on social media, expressing her disbelief and gratitude. “Good luck babe hitting a billion streams on Spotify is cuckoo loco,” Roan wrote, alongside photos of herself rocking a Joan Jett T-shirt. “All I have to say is thank you.”
The milestone has been met with widespread support, with fellow artists Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, and Brandi Carlile chiming in to celebrate. “Yessss,” wrote Rodrigo, while SZA added, “Yeeaaaa!!!! Never been more proud to contribute 500 streams.” Carlile simply remarked, “It kinda rules.”
“Good Luck, Babe!” is a standout track from Roan’s debut album, Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which was released in September 2023. The song, co-written with Daniel Nigro and Justin Tranter, not only peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 but also marked Roan’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart in September 2024.
Reflecting on the creation of the song, Roan shared, “I just wanted to write a big anthemic pop song. The song was a b—- to write,” explaining that it’s about “wishing good luck to someone who’s denying fate.”
This year has been a whirlwind for Roan, as she earned six Grammy nominations for 2025, including Best New Artist. Her album Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, while “Good Luck, Babe!” received nods for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
The excitement surrounding “Good Luck, Babe!” continues to grow, with Franz Ferdinand recently offering their own rendition of the track during a BBC Radio 2 performance. Lead singer Alex Kapranos praised Roan, saying, “It’s just an amazing song by an incredible artist… I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t love Chappell.”
