Country Music Legend Announces Retirements and Touring Farewells in 2024

by Barbara
Oak Ridge Boys

One of the most significant retirements comes from the Oak Ridge Boys. In January, band member William Lee Golden’s departure from touring was announced, following his battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), which ultimately led to his passing. This followed the loss of his son, William “Rusty” Golden, earlier in the year. The band also faced personal tragedies with the death of frontman Duane Allen’s wife, Norah Lee Allen, on Easter Sunday, and Richard Sterban’s wife, Donna, losing her father. Additionally, the death of longtime guitarist Donnie Carr’s wife, Phyllis Carr, in March cast a shadow over the group.

Despite these losses, the Oak Ridge Boys are scheduled to perform through December 13, with a final string of shows to close out their 2024 tour.
