Blake Shelton has announced he will co-produce the first-ever documentary about the life and legacy of country music icon Keith Whitley. The project will be a collaboration between Shelton’s production company, Lucky Horseshoe Productions, and Anomaly Content & Entertainment (ACE).
“Keith Whitley released only three albums during his life, but his music has influenced generations of country music artists,” Shelton shared on Instagram on Dec. 11. “I’m proud and honored we get to bring his incredible story to film.”
The documentary will offer an in-depth look at Whitley’s life and career, featuring rare archival footage from the Country Music Hall of Fame and personal collections from Whitley’s wife, country star Lorrie Morgan. It will also spotlight Whitley’s upbringing in the small town of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, while showcasing reflections from Morgan on balancing her own career while honoring her late husband’s legacy.
ACE partner and producer Evan Hayes said he was drawn to the project because it highlights “a pop culture story that lies slightly beneath the surface”.
The documentary aims to celebrate Whitley’s enduring influence on country music, offering fans a closer look at the man behind timeless hits like “Don’t Close Your Eyes” and “When You Say Nothing at All.”
