Lady Gaga has opened up about the intense emotional and creative journey behind her forthcoming seventh studio album, set for release in February. The pop star has already given fans a taste of the project with the dramatic lead single, “Disease,” which Gaga describes as an entry point into the chaos that defines the album.
She explained that the song serves as a metaphor for the chaotic exploration of different facets of her identity. “Disease felt like a way into the chaos of the album, which is kind of exercises in chaos – different sides of who I am as a person,” Gaga shared. “There’s some kind of chaos in all of the ways we try to analyse ourselves.”
Gaga further delved into the psychological aspects of the album, describing the inner conflict that drives its tone. “It started with this little voice on my shoulder saying, ‘There’s no more tears to cry, I heard you begging for life,’” she said, noting the uncomfortable feeling of confronting one’s own negative thoughts.
The album, according to Gaga, is a mix of raw sound and emotional vulnerability. “I’m just trying to push as much sound as possible,” she stated, adding that she wanted the LP to encapsulate the feeling of struggling “to see the light” before something positive emerges. “There are times when it’s hard to see the light, but sometimes what makes inner chaos harder is when you get a glimpse of the sun.”
Gaga also promised moments of love and dreaminess on the album, describing it as a full, multifaceted experience. “It’s true chaos,” she concluded, “but it’s also all about the complexity of life’s highs and lows.”
