Dan Lacasse, the mind behind Phantom Dan, has released his latest EP, Are You a Phase of the Dark?, tapping into the nostalgia-fueled resurgence of pop-punk and emo that has captivated millennials. The EP is a cathartic reflection of Lacasse’s personal journey, created during a time when he felt disconnected and sought a way to purge those emotions through music.
After years of moving across the country and playing in various bands, Lacasse, originally from New Hampshire, found himself in Atlanta, where he took a break from music after his band disbanded. Following a “life reset” with his wife Jenna, the couple traveled the country in an RV before settling in Athens, Georgia, in 2018. Despite the lack of a nearby music scene, Lacasse’s creative spark was reignited, eventually leading to the formation of the pop-punk cover band That’s Rad.
Lacasse’s new EP marks the culmination of his return to music, drawing from his personal struggles and experiences. Fans will have the chance to catch Phantom Dan live at A Very Rad Pop Punk Xmas III on December 14 at the 40 Watt Club, where Lacasse will perform his full EP as the opening act. The night will also feature tribute performances by That’s Rad, Murder the Mood, and Nadia Vaeh, along with an ugly Christmas sweater contest and a toy drive.
