Kendrick Lamar has made history by replacing himself at the top of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. His track “TV Off,” featuring Lefty Gunplay, ascends from No. 2 to No. 1 on the chart for the week of Dec. 14. This move pushes his previous chart-topper, “Squabble Up,” to No. 3. Both tracks are part of Lamar’s latest album, GNX, which holds its second consecutive week at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
“TV Off” saw impressive performance metrics, with 34.6 million U.S. streams, 2,000 digital downloads, and 6.6 million radio airplay audience impressions during the week of Nov. 29 – Dec. 5. Despite a 26% drop in streams from the previous week, it remains the most-streamed R&B/Hip-Hop song and leads the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart. The track also holds strong positions in digital sales and airplay charts.
While “Squabble Up” was initially the focal point of Lamar’s surprise album release, “TV Off” has quickly become a fan favorite, helped by its viral meme moment involving Lamar shouting out producer Mustard’s name. The song also claimed the top spot on Hot Rap Songs and slid to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, with holiday classics dominating the top two spots. This marks Lamar’s sixth No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and his first to not debut at the top.
