Georgia rap music star Quando Rondo has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute marijuana. The sentencing, handed down by Judge R. Stan Baker, concludes a federal case that began nearly a year ago.
Rondo, born Tyquian Bowman, faced a maximum sentence of five years but reached a plea agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice in August, reducing the charges to only the marijuana offense and dismissing additional drug-related charges.
Had the case gone to trial, U.S. prosecutors were prepared to present expert witnesses on criminal street gangs and drug distribution. Instead, Rondo’s guilty plea to the marijuana conspiracy charge allowed him to avoid a lengthier sentence.
