Eau Claire-based country music artist Wyatt Thomson has released his debut album, Sad Records & Country Tunes through Philville Records. The eight-track album offers a nostalgic blend of honky-tonk rhythms and storytelling, reminiscent of classic country acts like Roger Miller, who once dominated the airwaves of mid-20th century dive bars.
Thomson’s music draws inspiration from both everyday encounters and personal experiences, with lyrics rooted in vivid storytelling. One of the album’s more colorful inspirations came from a bizarre encounter in a pawn shop, where a suspect character tried to sell stripper poles and CPAP machines for quick cash.
Thomson, who was named “Best New Artist” in the 2023 Volume One Best of the Chippewa Valley Reader Poll, is a rising star in the country scene. His music speaks to the heart of traditional country while embracing the evolving nature of the genre. With his guitar in hand and a passion for storytelling, Thomson is poised to keep sharing his songs with the world.
