Javier Bátiz, a pioneering figure in Mexican rock music, passed away at the age of 80. The Tijuana-born guitarist, known for mentoring legendary musician Carlos Santana, was confirmed dead by his wife, Claudia Madrid, in a heartfelt social media tribute.
In her message, Madrid honored Bátiz’s profound musical legacy, writing, “Dear friends and family, I want to tell you that our dear and beloved husband Javier Bátiz passed away today. His legacy and music will remain here forever. I love you, my love. Fly high, my angel.” The tribute was accompanied by a photograph of the couple.
Bátiz’s passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from the community. Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño expressed his sorrow, calling Bátiz a proud native of Tijuana who embodied resilience and determination. “Javier was a legacy of struggle and perseverance, proof that if there is a will, there is a way,” he wrote on social media.
The government of Baja California, led by Governor Marina del Pilar, also paid its respects, noting that Bátiz’s artistic contributions and deep love for his homeland would never be forgotten.
Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT) joined the chorus of tributes, commemorating Bátiz’s enduring impact on Mexican music. The musician’s influence, particularly in the rock scene, will continue to be celebrated in the memories of those who admired his work.
