Nelly’s Black and White Ball in St. Louis not only brought together celebrities for a night of charity and music but also unveiled an exciting new project: a hip-hop and country music festival, set to debut in 2025. The event will be a collaboration between the Grammy-winning rapper and his fellow St. Louis native, renowned producer Metro Boomin.
The surprise announcement capped off a star-studded evening, which included a private concert and appearances by sports figures like Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington and former Rams lineman Orlando Pace. Nelly and Metro Boomin revealed that the festival, named the Smokin’ Hayride Festival 2025, would feature a unique fusion of hip-hop and country sounds. The two performers also shared the stage, giving fans a taste of what to expect.
The festival comes after the recent announcement of Nelly and the St. Lunatics’ first world tour in 16 years, though their hometown, St. Louis, was notably absent from the tour dates. This prompted St. Lunatic Kyjuan to tease something special for the city, later confirmed as the festival.
While full details, including the festival date, are still under wraps, the event is expected to be a major cultural celebration in St. Louis, blending music genres and celebrating local talent.
Throughout the night, Nelly also paid tribute to his roots, honoring his family, the St. Louis community, and its local artists. “I’m from the Lou and I’m proud,” he remarked, referencing the line that has become synonymous with his identity. As one organizer joked, “He should have copyrighted it!” to which Nelly responded with a laugh, underscoring his deep connection to his hometown.
