Memphis rapper GloRilla ended a successful 2024 on a heartwarming note by giving back to her community. The 25-year-old hip-hop star made a surprise visit to her alma mater, Melrose High School, in Orange Mound, where she presented a $25,000 donation to help fund the construction of a new media center as part of the school’s library.
The visit, which was kept a secret until the moment GloRilla walked into the gymnasium, left the school’s roughly 800 students cheering with excitement. In a touching gesture, school officials announced that the new media center would be named in her honor.
GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria Woods, shared her emotional connection to the gift, recalling how she once hoped someone would help Melrose during her time as a student. “The fact that I have the ability to do it now warms my heart,” she said.
This philanthropic act marks another milestone in GloRilla’s standout year, which saw her receiving a key to the City of Memphis, earning Grammy nominations, and making top music lists, including Rolling Stone’s Album and Song of the Year. Her impact extends beyond music, as she continues to use her success to uplift her community.
