Kendrick Lamar has etched his name in the history books with a groundbreaking achievement on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The rapper became the first artist in the chart’s 66-year history to claim three consecutive No. 1 spots without interruption, a feat that further solidifies his dominance in the genre.
Lamar’s latest milestone comes with his track “Luther,” a collaboration with SZA, which climbs from No. 2 to No. 1 on the chart dated December 21. This marks the third consecutive week in which Lamar has claimed the top position, following his earlier hits “TV Off” (which spent a week at No. 1) and “Squabble Up” (currently at No. 3). All three songs are featured on Lamar’s surprise album GNX, released on November 22 through pgLang/Interscope Records.
The success of “Luther” is driven by impressive streaming numbers, with the track earning 28.7 million U.S. streams, alongside a 53% increase in song downloads (2,000 total), and a 63% surge in airplay audience. These figures helped propel “Luther” to No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart and No. 3 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay.
In addition to the chart success, Lamar’s GNX album continues to make waves, ruling the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for a third week with 125,000 equivalent album units sold during the tracking period of December 6-12.
With “Luther” now leading the way, Lamar’s string of successes showcases his unprecedented ability to dominate both the streaming and radio spheres, cementing his place as one of the genre’s most influential artists.
