At just 11 years old, Castlederg’s Lexi Rose is making a name for herself in the music world with the release of her new single, I Just Wanna Be Me. The song, a heartfelt anthem about self-acceptance and staying true to one’s passions, showcases the young talent’s distinctive blend of storytelling and emotion.
Lexi, who has been singing from an early age, was encouraged by her mother, Olivia, to pursue her musical dreams. Olivia recalls that Lexi began composing songs as a child, even writing a Christmas song when she was just five years old. “It might need some work, but maybe next year, who knows?” Olivia laughed, reflecting on Lexi’s early creative efforts. “She gets an idea and a tune in her head, and it just spirals from there.”
I Just Wanna Be Me conveys a powerful message: to embrace individuality, even when not everyone may understand or appreciate it. Lexi’s mom explains that the song is all about being authentic and following what makes you happy, whether that’s singing country music or simply being yourself. “She just loves singing and will keep doing it from morning until night,” Olivia adds.
The song, written in just a week, was shaped with the help of Lexi’s music teacher, David Doonan, at the Sound Garden in Drumquin. Together, they refined the lyrics and melody to create the final version. The track also features contributions from seasoned musicians, including Aidan McGlinchey of the Paul Kelly Band on keyboard and David Kee of Keltic Storm on guitar, adding depth and richness to Lexi’s youthful sound.
Lexi Rose’s music journey is only just beginning, but with her genuine talent and dedication, it’s clear she’s one to watch in the country music scene.
