Blake Shelton has brought a fresh, spirited energy to the holiday season with his lively cover of the classic Christmas song, “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” Known for his country roots and strong presence on The Voice, Shelton’s version of the gospel-inspired tune, featured in the 2024 holiday comedy The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, offers a new twist on a well-loved carol.
Shelton announced the release of the track on Instagram, sharing his excitement with the caption, “Christmas came early!!!!!” He expressed how much fun he had recording the song, which features uplifting, upbeat arrangements that highlight his signature style. The track, with background vocals from Wendy Moten, a The Voice Season 21 runner-up on Team Shelton, adds an extra layer of warmth and soul to the performance.
“Go Tell It on the Mountain,” rooted in a passage from the Gospel of Luke, tells the story of the Nativity and the spread of Jesus’ message. Its inclusion on a Christmas movie soundtrack was a fitting choice, as it conveys both reverence and joy—a perfect blend of the holiday spirit. Shelton, who has long been a fan of Christmas music, commented in September, “I love everything about Christmas, especially music that makes me feel as good inside as the holiday itself.” He continued, “We wanted to record a song that expresses reverence and faith and puts a smile on your face. ‘Go Tell It on the Mountain’ does all of that, and I hope our version and the movie become a new Christmas tradition.”
Beyond his music, Shelton also shared a glimpse into his personal holiday traditions with wife Gwen Stefani, noting that they enjoy challenging themselves with complex and creative dishes for their Christmas meals. “Gwen and I, our tradition has become cooking during Christmas—and not just like your normal, typical [dishes]. But we always challenge ourselves and try to come up with a different, weird, complicated, difficult thing to cook every year,” he revealed in 2022.
As the season unfolds, Shelton’s rendition of “Go Tell It on the Mountain” is sure to be a holiday favorite for years to come.
